Assembling furniture at home may seem like a simple task, but in practice it requires precision and patience. If you want to avoid unnecessary mistakes and ensure a quality result, we offer the most important tips for successfully assembling furniture at home.
Preparation work
- A free and spacious place - choose a fairly spacious place, preferably not far from where the furniture will be installed. For example, a wardrobe is most often assembled lying down, so a large floor area is required.
- Protect the floor - spread cardboard or fabric on the floor to protect the surface from scratches. You can also use the cardboard box that the furniture came in for this.
- Plan an assistant - it is advisable to involve another person to move large-sized furniture. This will prevent possible injuries, for example, straining back muscles.
- Prepare tools in advance - so that you do not have to interrupt your work in search of a missing key or screwdriver, prepare everything you need in advance. Sort screws and fasteners by size and place them in different containers for easy viewing.
During assembly
- Follow the instructions carefully - before starting work, read the instructions, check if all parts and fittings are included.
- Start simple – if you are a beginner, it is better to try to assemble a small structure first, for example, a drawer.
- Be careful with power tools – inexperience with a screwdriver or drill can cause irreparable damage. For more delicate stages, choose hand tools.
- Do not tighten the screws all the way with force – especially if you are using a power tool. This can damage the structure of the furniture board or plywood.
- Check the level and symmetry – regularly measure and check that the structure is even, and especially that the diagonals are the same length to avoid cracks or crooked cabinets.
- Do not remove the protective film ahead of time – it is recommended to remove the protective film from the parts only after the assembly is complete.
- Give the glue time to dry – to attach the mirror, it is better to glue it horizontally. In the case of large mirrors, it is recommended to leave the piece with the mirror glued on a flat horizontal surface for several hours so that the glue has time to harden.
